The following route describes a Georgetown based 18 mile run. This route is characterized by hills, excellent shade and good scenery. It takes you along the Maryland/DC line from miles3.5 to 9, thru some very attractive neighborhoods. The first nine miles are on roads populated with traffic, so be aware. The last nine miles are on Beach Drive/Rock Creek Parkway. Thus this route should be RUN ONLY ON WEEKENDS when the upper NW DC portions of Beach Drive are closed to traffic.

It is suggested that you only run this on weekends/holidays, when Beach Drive is closed to traffic

 Directions

1)    Begin at the 3300 Block of M Street NW proceeding west

2)    M ST NW becomes CANAL RD NW.

3)     Stay straight to go onto MACARTHUR BLVD NW.

4)    Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto FOXHALL RD NW.

5)    Turn LEFT onto MACARTHUR BLVD NW

6)    Turn LEFT onto RESERVOIR RD NW.

7)    RESERVOIR RD NW becomes MACARTHUR BLVD NW after a mile

8)    Proceed west on MACARTHUR BLVD until CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD

9)    Turn right on CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD to NEBRASKA AVENUE. This is a major hill of pain

10)    After .4 miles, turn LEFT onto MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE NW.

11)    Go one mile to the WESTMORELAND CIRCLE roundabout.

12)    Turn Right. The road will be WESTERN AVE.

13)    Follow WESTERN AVENUE across both WISCONSIN AVENUE and CONNECTICUT AVENUE to DANIEL ROAD

14)    Turn left on DANIEL ROAD

15)    Follow to WYNDALE ROAD

16)    Turn right on WYNDALE. Proceed until stop sign

17)    Turn right on BEACH DRIVE

18)    Follow BEACH DRIVE 4.3 miles until Pierce Mill

19)    At Pierce Mill, exit roadway and begin running on bike path.

20)    Follow bike path past the National Zoo

21)    Continue on path under the Duke Ellington and Connecticut Avenue Bridges

22)    Cross over Calvert Street.

23)    Follow Bike path 1.7 miles beyond Calvert Street to Pennsylvania Avenue. Get off here and turn left on M Street

24)    Proceed West. Follow M Street .6 miles back to start at 3300 Block.
